‘’Tis Good, Lord, to Be Here’ Common Praise #167
Greeting
Blessed be the holy Trinity, one God,
the fountain of living water,
the rock who gave us birth,
our light and our salvation.
Amen.
Joined with Christ in the waters of
baptism,
we are clothed with God’s mercy and
forgiveness.
Let us give thanks for the gift of baptism.
Water is poured into the font.
We give you thanks, O God,
for in the beginning your Spirit moved over
the waters
and by your Word you created the world,
calling forth life in which you took
delight.
Through the waters of the flood
you delivered Noah and his family.
Through the sea you led your people Israel
from slavery into freedom.
At the river your Son was baptized by John
and anointed with the Holy Spirit.
By water and your Word you claim us
as daughters and sons,
making us heirs of your promise and
servants of all.
we praise you for the gift of water that
sustains life,
and above all we praise you
for the gift of new life in Jesus Christ.
Shower us with your Spirit, and renew our
lives
with your forgiveness, grace and love.
To you be given honour and praise
through Jesus Christ our Lord
in the unity of the Holy Spirit, now and
for ever.
The Presider, assisted by other Ministers
if appropriate, may sprinkle the Community with the baptismal water.

Collect
of the Day
Let us pray.
O God, in the transfiguration of your Son
you confirmed the mysteries of
the faith
by the witness of Moses and
Elijah,
and in the voice from the
bright cloud
declaring Jesus your beloved
Son,
you foreshadowed our adoption
as your children.
Make us heirs with Christ of
your glory,
and bring us to enjoy its
fullness,
through Jesus Christ, our
Saviour and Lord,
who lives and reigns with you
and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen. [ii]
The
Proclamation of the Word of God
The First Reading
A
Reading from Exodus (24.12-18).
The Lord
said to Moses, “Come up to me on the mountain, and wait there; and I will give
you the tablets of stone, with the law and the commandment, which I have
written for their instruction.” So Moses
set out with his assistant Joshua, and Moses went up into the mountain of
God. To the elders he had said, “Wait
here for us, until we come to you again; for Aaron and Hur are with you;
whoever has a dispute may go to them.”
Then Moses went up on the mountain, and
the cloud covered the mountain. The
glory of the Lord settled on Mount
Sinai, and the cloud covered it for six days; on the seventh day he called to
Moses out of the cloud. Now the
appearance of the glory of the Lord
was like a devouring fire on the top of the mountain in the sight of the people
of Israel. Moses entered the cloud, and
went up on the mountain. Moses was on
the mountain for forty days and forty nights.
Hear
what the Spirit is saying to the church.
Thanks be to God.
The Psalm
Psalm 119.33-40
with the refrain from Songs for the Holy One
Refrain
(sung twice): Happy are those who trust the Holy One.
1 Why are the nations in an uproar? *
Why do the peoples mutter empty
threats?
2 Why do
the rulers of the earth rise up in revolt,
and the princes plot together, *
against
the Lord and the Lord’s anointed?
3 “Let us break their yoke,” they say; *
“let us cast off their bonds from us.”
4 The
One enthroned in heaven is laughing; *
the
Lord has them in derision.
Refrain: Happy
are those who trust the Holy One.
5 Then God speaks to them in wrath, *
and the divine rage fills them with
terror.
6 “I
myself have set my anointed *
upon
my holy hill of Zion.”
7 Let me announce the decree of the Lord, *
who said to me, “You are my heir;
this day have I begotten you.
8 Ask of
me, and I will give you the nations for your inheritance *
and
the ends of the earth for your possession.
9 You shall crush them with an iron rod *
and
shatter them like a piece of pottery.”
Refrain: Happy
are those who trust the Holy One.
10 And now, you monarchs, be wise; *
be warned, you rulers of the earth.
11 Submit
to the Lord with fear, *
and
bow with trembling before the presence of the Lord;
12 lest God be angry and you perish; *
for the divine wrath is quickly
kindled.
Happy are they all *
who
take refuge in God!
Refrain: Happy
are those who trust the Holy One.
The
Second Reading
A Reading from the Second Letter of Peter
(1.16-21).
For
we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and
coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we had been eyewitnesses of his
majesty. For he received honour and
glory from God the Father when that voice was conveyed to him by the Majestic
Glory, saying, “This is my Son, my Beloved, with whom I am well pleased.” We ourselves heard this voice come from
heaven, while we were with him on the holy mountain.
So we have the prophetic message more
fully confirmed. You will do well to be
attentive to this as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and
the morning star rises in your hearts. First of all you must understand this,
that no prophecy of scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, because
no prophecy ever came by human will, but men and women moved by the Holy Spirit
spoke from God.
Hear what the Spirit is saying to the
church.
Thanks
be to God.

Hymn
‘Adoremus te, Jesu Christe’ Common Praise #338 (sung twice in English)
The
Gospel
The Lord be with you.
And
also with you.
The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ
according to Matthew (17.1-9).
Glory
to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
Six
days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and his brother John and led
them up a high mountain, by themselves.
And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun,
and his clothes became dazzling white.
Suddenly there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him. Then Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good
for us to be here; if you wish, I will make three dwellings here, one for you,
one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
While he was still speaking, suddenly a bright cloud overshadowed them,
and from the cloud a voice said, “This is my Son, the Beloved; with him I am
well pleased; listen to him!” When the
disciples heard this, they fell to the ground and were overcome by fear. But Jesus came and touched them, saying, “Get
up and do not be afraid.” And when they
looked up, they saw no one except Jesus himself alone.
As
they were coming down the mountain, Jesus ordered them, “Tell no one about the
vision until after the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.”
The Gospel of Christ.
Praise
to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Do you believe in God the Father?
I
believe in God,
the
Father almighty,
creator
of heaven and earth.
Do you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of
God?
I
believe in Jesus Christ,
God’s
only Son, our Lord,
who
was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born
of the virgin Mary,
suffered
under Pontius Pilate,
was
crucified and was buried;
he
descended to the dead.
On
the third day he rose again;
he
ascended into heaven,
he
is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and
he will come to judge the living and the dead.
Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit?
I
believe in God the Holy Spirit,
the
holy catholic church,
the
communion of saints,
the
forgiveness of sins,
the
resurrection of the body,
and
the life everlasting. Amen.
Will you continue in the apostles’ teaching
and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in the prayers?
I
will, with God’s help.
Will you persevere in resisting evil and,
whenever you fall into sin, repent and return to the Lord?
I
will, with God’s help.
Will you proclaim by word and example the
good news of God in Christ?
I
will, with God’s help.
Will you seek and serve Christ in all
persons, loving your neighbour as yourself?
I
will, with God’s help.
Will you strive for justice and peace among
all people, and respect the dignity of every human being?
I
will, with God’s help.
Will you strive to safeguard the integrity
of God’s creation, and respect, sustain and renew the life of the Earth?
I
will, with God’s help.

Prayer over the Gifts
God of faithfulness,
in every age you call men and
women
to make known your love.
May we who celebrate this
eucharist today
be so strengthened in the
ministries to which we are called,
that we may always witness to
your holy name.
The
Thanksgiving at the Table
The Lord be with you.
And
also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We
lift them to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It
is right to give our thanks and praise.
Blessed are you, gracious God,
creator of heaven and earth,
because in the mystery of the Word made
flesh
you have caused a new light to shine in our
hearts,
to give knowledge of salvation
in the face of your Son Jesus Christ our
Lord.
Now with angels and archangels
and the whole company of heaven,
we lift our voices
to proclaim the glory of your name. [iv]
Holy,
holy, holy Lord,
God
of power and might,
heaven
and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna
in the highest.
Blessed
is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Blessed are you, O God of the
universe. Your mercy is everlasting
and your faithfulness endures from age to
age.
Praise to you for creating the heavens and
the earth.
Praise to you for saving the earth from the
waters of the flood.
Praise to you for bringing the Israelites
safely through the sea.
Praise to you for leading your people
through the wilderness to the land of milk
and honey.
Praise to you for the words and deeds of
Jesus, your anointed one.
Praise to you for the death and
resurrection of Christ.
Praise to you for your Spirit poured out on
all nations.
In the night in which he was betrayed, our
Lord Jesus took bread,
and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to
his disciples, saying:
Take and eat; this is my body, given for
you.
Do this for the remembrance of me.
Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave
thanks,
and gave it for all to drink, saying:
This cup is the new covenant in my blood,
shed for you and for all people for the
forgiveness of sin.
Do this for the remembrance of me.
With this bread and cup we remember our
Lord’s passover
from death to life as we proclaim the
mystery of faith:
Christ
has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.
O God of resurrection and new life:
Pour out your Holy Spirit on us and on
these gifts of bread and wine.
Bless this feast. Grace our table with your presence.
Come,
Holy Spirit.
Reveal yourself to us in the breaking of
the bread.
Raise us up as the body of Christ for the
world.
Breathe new life into us.
Send us forth, burning with justice, peace
and love.
Come,
Holy Spirit.
With the ever-blessed Virgin Mary, blessed
Joseph,
blessed Faith of Aquitaine and your holy
ones of all times and places,
with the earth and all its creatures, with
sun and moon and stars,
we praise you, O God, blessed and holy
Trinity,
now and forever. Amen.

The
Lord’s Prayer
As our Saviour taught us, let us pray,
Our
Father in heaven,
hallowed
be your name,
your
kingdom come,
your
will be done,
on
earth as in heaven.
Give
us today our daily bread.
Forgive
us our sins
as
we forgive those who sin against us.
Save
us from the time of trial,
and
deliver us from evil.
For
the kingdom, the power,
and
the glory are yours,
The
Breaking of the Bread
We break the bread of life,
and that life is the light of the world.

in the midst of us,
bring
us to light and life. [viii]
