‘We’ll Sing in the Morning’ Common Praise #37
Greeting
Blessed be the holy Trinity, one God,
the
fountain of living water,
the
rock who gave us birth,
Almighty God,
to
whom all hearts are open,
all
desires known,
and
from whom no secrets are hid:
cleanse
the thoughts of our hearts
by
the inspiration of your Holy Spirit,
that
we may perfectly love you
and
worthily magnify your holy name,
through
Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Canticle
‘Gloria in excelsis’ by John Rutter
Collect
of the Day
Let us pray.
Holy One, whose fingers sculpted sun and moon;
Holy Spirit, who brooded over
the waters of creation;
Holy Word, who lives in us;
may we share in your grace,
love and communion,
so that we may live in your
likeness;
for you live in unity and
diversity,
The Proclamation of the
Word of God
The
First Reading
A Reading from Genesis (1.1-2.4a).
In
the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a
formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God
swept over the face of the waters. Then
God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. And God saw that the light was good; and God
separated the light from the darkness. God
called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning,
the first day.
And
God said, “Let there be a dome in the midst of the waters, and let it separate
the waters from the waters.” So God made
the dome and separated the waters that were under the dome from the waters that
were above the dome. And it was so. God called the dome Sky. And there was evening and there was morning,
the second day.
And God said, “Let the waters under
the sky be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear.” And it was so. God called the dry land Earth, and the waters
that were gathered together he called Seas. And God saw that it was good. Then God said, “Let the earth put forth
vegetation: plants yielding seed, and
fruit trees of every kind on earth that bear fruit with the seed in it.” And it was so. The earth brought forth vegetation: plants yielding seed of every kind, and trees
of every kind bearing fruit with the seed in it. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening and there was morning,
the third day.
And God said, “Let there be lights in
the dome of the sky to separate the day from the night; and let them be for
signs and for seasons and for days and years, and let them be lights in the
dome of the sky to give light upon the earth.” And it was so. God made the two great lights — the greater
light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night — and the stars. God set them in the dome of the sky to give
light upon the earth, to rule over the day and over the night, and to separate
the light from the darkness. And God saw
that it was good. And there was evening
and there was morning, the fourth day.
And God said, “Let the waters bring
forth swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the
dome of the sky.” So God created the
great sea monsters and every living creature that moves, of every kind, with
which the waters swarm, and every winged bird of every kind. And God saw that it was good. God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and
multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.”
And there was evening and there was
morning, the fifth day.
And
God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures of every kind: cattle and creeping things and wild animals
of the earth of every kind.” And it was
so. God made the wild animals of the
earth of every kind, and the cattle of every kind, and everything that creeps
upon the ground of every kind. And God
saw that it was good.
Then
God said, “Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness; and
let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air,
and over the cattle, and over all the wild animals of the earth, and over every
creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.”
So God created humankind in his
image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
God blessed them, and God said to
them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have
dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the air and over every
living thing that moves upon the earth.” God said, “See, I have given you every plant
yielding seed that is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed
in its fruit; you shall have them for food. And to every beast of the earth, and to every
bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that
has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so. God saw everything that he had made, and
indeed, it was very good. And there was
evening and there was morning, the sixth day.
Thus the heavens and the earth were
finished, and all their multitude. And
on the seventh day God finished the work that he had done, and he rested on the
seventh day from all the work that he had done. So God blessed the seventh day and hallowed
it, because on it God rested from all the work that he had done in creation.
These are the generations of the
heavens and the earth when they were created.
Hear what the Spirit is saying to the
church.
Thanks
be to God.
The
Psalm of the Day
Psalm 8 with Refrain from Songs for the Holy
One
Refrain (twice): May we
ever honour the Holy One, our creator.
1 O Lord our governor, *
how
exalted is your name in all the world!
2 Out of the mouths of infants and
children *
your
majesty is praised above the heavens.
You have set up a stronghold against your
adversaries, *
to quell
the enemy and the avenger.
3 When I consider your heavens, the
work of your fingers, *
the moon and the stars you have set
in their courses,
4 what are human beings that you
should be mindful of them, *
their
children that you should seek them out?
5 You have made them but little
lower than the angels; *
you adorn them with glory and
honour;
Refrain: May we ever honour the Holy One, our creator.
6 you give them mastery over the works
of your hands; *
you
put all things under their feet;
7 all sheep and oxen, *
even the wild beasts of the field,
8 the birds of the air, the fish of
the sea, *
and
all that walks in the paths of the sea.
9 O Lord our governor, *
how exalted is your name in all the
world!
Refrain: May we ever honour the Holy One, our creator.

Second Reading
A Reading from the Second Letter to the
Corinthians (13.11-13).
Finally,
brothers and sisters, farewell. Put
things in order, listen to my appeal, agree with one another, live in peace;
and the God of love and peace will be with you.
Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the saints greet you.
The
grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy
Spirit be with all of you.
Hear what the Spirit is saying to the
church.

Hymn
before the Gospel
‘From the Waiting Comes the Sign’ Common Praise #642
The
Gospel
The Lord be with you.
And
also with you.
The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ
according to Matthew (28.16-20).
Glory
to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
Now
the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had
directed them. When they saw him, they
worshiped him; but some doubted. And
Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been
given to me. Go therefore and make
disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the
Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have
commanded you. And remember, I am with
you always, to the end of the age.”
The Gospel of Christ.
Praise
to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
The
Sermon
The
Nicene Creed
Let
us confess the faith of the church.
We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and
unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus
Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the
Father,
God from God, Light from
Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father;
through him all things were
made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven,
was incarnate of the Holy
Spirit and the virgin Mary
and became truly human.
For our sake he was crucified
under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was
buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the
scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right
hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to
judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no
end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father,
who with the Father and the
Son is worshipped and glorified,
who has spoken through the
prophets.
We believe in one holy
catholic and apostolic church.
We acknowledge one baptism for
the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection
of the dead,
and the life of the world to
come. Amen. [iii]

‘For the Fruit of All Creation’ Common Praise #259
The
Prayer over the Gifts
Let us pray.
God of all creation,
all
you have made is good,
and
your love endures forever.
You
bring forth bread from the earth
and
fruit from the vine.
Nourish
us with these gifts,
so
that we might be for the world
signs
of your gracious presence
The
Thanksgiving at the Table
The Lord be with you.
And
also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We
lift them to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It
is right to give our thanks and praise.
Blessed are you,
gracious God,
creator of heaven and
earth;
we give you thanks and
praise,
because, in the mystery
you disclose to us,
you reveal your glory
as the gory of your Son
and the Holy Spirit:
three persons equal in
majesty,
undivided in splendour,
yet one Lord, one God,
ever to be adored in
your everlasting glory.
Therefore with all the
company of heaven
Holy,
holy, holy Lord,
God
of power and might.
Heaven
and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna
in the highest.
Blessed
is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Holy God, holy and mighty, holy and
immortal:
you we praise and glorify, you we
worship and adore.
You formed the earth from chaos;
you encircled the globe with air;
you created fire for warmth and
light; you nourish the lands with water.
You moulded us in your image, and
with mercy higher than the mountains,
with grace deeper than the seas,
you blessed the Israelites
and cherished them as your
own.
That we also, estranged and dying,
might be adopted to live in your Spirit,
you called to us through the life
and death of Jesus.
In the night in which he was
betrayed,
our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave
thanks;
broke it, and gave it to his
disciples, saying:
Take and eat; this is my body,
given for you.
Do this for the remembrance of me.
Again, after supper, he took the
cup, gave thanks,
and gave it for all to drink,
saying:
This cup is the new covenant in my
blood,
shed for you and for all people for
the forgiveness of sin.
Do this for the remembrance of me.
Together as the body of Christ, we
proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.
Christ has died. Christ is
risen. Christ will come again.
With this bread and cup we remember
your Son,
the first-born of your new
creation.
We remember his life lived for
others,
and his death and resurrection,
which renews the face of the earth.
We await his coming, when, with the
world made perfect through your wisdom,
all our sins and sorrows will be no
more.
Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.
Holy God, holy and merciful, holy
and compassionate,
send upon us and this meal your
Holy Spirit,
whose breath revives us for life,
whose fire rouses us to love.
Enfold in your arms all who share
this holy food.
Nurture in us the fruits of the
Spirit,
so that we may be a living tree,
sharing your bounty with all the
world.
Amen. Come, Holy Spirit.
Holy and benevolent God, receive
our praise and petitions,
as Jesus received the cry of the
needy,
and fill us with your blessing,
until, needy no longer and bound to
you in love,
we feast forever in the triumph of
the Lamb:
through whom all glory and honour
is yours,
O God, O Living One, with the Holy
Spirit,
The
Lord’s Prayer
As our Saviour taught us, let us pray,
Our
Father in heaven,
hallowed
be your name,
your
kingdom come,
your
will be done,
on
earth as in heaven.
Give
us today our daily bread.
Forgive
us our sins
as
we forgive those who sin against us.
Save
us from the time of trial,
and
deliver us from evil.
For
the kingdom, the power,
and
the glory are yours,
The
Breaking of the Bread
Be known to us, Lord
Jesus, in the breaking of the bread.
Be known to us, Lord Jesus, in the breaking of the bread.
The bread which we
break, alleluia,
is the communion of the
body of Christ.
Be known to us, Lord Jesus, in the breaking of the bread.
One body are we,
alleluia,
for though many, we share
one bread.
The gifts of God for the people of God.
Thanks
be to God.

The Sending Forth of the
Community
The
Prayer after Communion
O God,
your
name is veiled in mystery,
yet
you have made us and call us by name;
draw
us more deeply into your divine life,
so
that we may show forth in our lives
your
justice, kindness and humility;
for
you alone are holy,
Glory to God,
whose
power, working in us,
can
do infinitely more
than
we can ask or imagine.
Glory
to God from generation to generation,
in
the Church and in Christ Jesus,
for
ever and ever. Amen.
