‘The Day of Resurrection’ Common Praise #205
Greeting
Alleluia!
Christ is risen.
The
Lord is risen indeed. Alleluia!
May his grace and peace be with us.
May
he fill our hearts with joy.
There is one body and one Spirit;
there
is one hope in God’s call to us;
one Lord, one faith, one baptism;
one
God, the Source of all being.
Canticle
‘Gloria, Gloria, in Excelsis Deo’ Common Praise #376 (thrice in English)
Collect
of the Day
Let us pray.
God of glory,
whose Beloved took the shadowed
road of death
and find life in the darkness:
may his love be our law,
so that, undimmed by fear,
we may witness to the power of
new birth,
The Proclamation of the
Word of God
The
First Reading
A Reading from Leviticus (19.9-18).
When
you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap to the very edges of your
field, or gather the gleanings of your harvest.
You shall not strip your vineyard bare, or gather the fallen grapes of
your vineyard; you shall leave them for the poor and the alien: I am the Lord your God.
You
shall not steal; you shall not deal falsely; and you shall not lie to one
another. And you shall not swear falsely
by my name, profaning the name of your God:
I am the Lord.
You shall not defraud your neighbour;
you shall not steal; and you shall not keep for yourself the wages of a
labourer until morning. You shall not
revile the deaf or put a stumbling block before the blind; you shall fear your
God: I am the Lord.
You
shall not render an unjust judgement; you shall not be partial to the poor or
defer to the great: with justice you
shall judge your neighbour. You shall
not go around as a slanderer among your people, and you shall not profit by the
blood of your neighbour: I am the Lord.
You
shall not hate in your heart anyone of your kin; you shall reprove your
neighbour, or you will incur guilt yourself.
You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against any of your
people, but you shall love your neighbour as yourself: I am the Lord.
Hear what the Spirit is saying to the
church.
Thanks
be to God.
The
Psalm of the Day
Psalm 24.1-6 with Refrain from Songs for the
Holy One
Refrain (twice): O
glorious Majesty, may your presence ever be with us.
1 The earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it, *
the world and all who dwell therein.
2 For it is God who founded it upon the seas *
and
made it firm upon the rivers of the deep.
Refrain:
O glorious Majesty, may your
presence ever be with us.
3 “Who can ascend the hill of the Lord *
and who can stand in the holy place
of God?”
4 “Those who have clean hands and a pure heart, *
who
have not pledged themselves to falsehood,
nor
sworn by what is a fraud.
Refrain:
O glorious Majesty, may your presence
ever be with us.
5 They shall receive a blessing from the Lord *
and a just reward from the God of
their salvation.”
6 Such is the generation of those who seek you, *
of
those who seek your face, O God of Jacob.
Refrain:
O glorious Majesty, may your
presence ever be with us.
The
Second Reading
A Reading from the Acts of the Apostles (11.1-18).
Now
the apostles and the believers who were in Judea heard that the Gentiles had
also accepted the word of God. So when
Peter went up to Jerusalem, the circumcised believers criticized him, saying,
“Why did you go to uncircumcised men and eat with them?” Then Peter began to explain it to them, step
by step, saying, “I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a
vision. There was something like a large
sheet coming down from heaven, being lowered by its four corners; and it came
close to me. As I looked at it closely I
saw four-footed animals, beasts of prey, reptiles, and birds of the air. I also heard a voice saying to me, ‘Get up,
Peter; kill and eat.’ But I replied, ‘By
no means, Lord; for nothing profane or unclean has ever entered my mouth.’ But a second time the voice answered from
heaven, ‘What God has made clean, you must not call profane.’ This happened three times; then everything
was pulled up again to heaven. At that
very moment three men, sent to me from Caesarea, arrived at the house where we
were. The Spirit told me to go with them
and not to make a distinction between them and us. These six brothers also accompanied me, and
we entered the man’s house. He told us
how he had seen the angel standing in his house and saying, ‘Send to Joppa and
bring Simon, who is called Peter; he will give you a message by which you and
your entire household will be saved.’
And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them just as it had
upon us at the beginning. And I
remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said, ‘John baptized with water,
but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’
If then God gave them the same gift that he gave us when we believed in
the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could hinder God?” When they heard this, they were
silenced. And they praised God, saying,
“Then God has given even to the Gentiles the repentance that leads to life.”
Hear what the Spirit is saying to the
church.
Thanks
be to God.
Hymn

‘Not for Tongues of Heaven’s Angels’ Common Praise #494 vv. 1, 2
The
Gospel
The Lord be with you.
And
also with you.
The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ
according to John (13.31-35).
Glory
to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
When
[Judas] had gone out, Jesus said, “Now the Son of Man has been glorified, and
God has been glorified in him. If God
has been glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself and will
glorify him at once. Little children, I
am with you only a little longer. You
will look for me; and as I said to the [other Jews] so now I say to you, ‘Where
I am going, you cannot come.’ I give you
a new commandment, that you love one another.
Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my
disciples, if you have love for one another.”
The Gospel of Christ.
Praise
to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

The
Sermon
The
Apostles’ Creed
Do you believe in God the Father?
I
believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator
of heaven and earth.
Do you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of
God?
I
believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord,
who
was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born
of the virgin Mary,
suffered
under Pontius Pilate,
was
crucified, died and was buried;
he
descended to the dead.
On
the third day he rose again;
he
ascended into heaven,
he
is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and
he will come to judge the living and the dead.
Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit?
I
believe in the Holy Spirit,
the
holy catholic church,
the
communion of saints,
the
forgiveness of sins,
the
resurrection of the body,
and
the life everlasting. Amen.

The
Prayer over the Gifts
Let us pray.
Gracious God,
you
show us your way
and
give us your divine life.
May
everything we do
be
directed by the knowledge of your truth.
The
Thanksgiving at the Table
The Lord be with you.
And
also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We
lift them to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It
is right to give our thanks and praise.
It is indeed right, our duty and our joy,
that we should at all times and in all
places
give thanks and praise to you, almighty and
merciful God,
for the glorious resurrection of our Saviour
Jesus Christ,
the true Paschal Lamb who gave himself to
take away our sin,
who in dying has destroyed death, and in
rising has brought us to eternal life.
And so, with Mary Magdalene and Peter and
all the witnesses of the resurrection,
with earth and sea and all their creatures,
and with angels and archangels, cherubim and
seraphim,
Holy,
holy, holy Lord,
God
of power and might.
Heaven
and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna
in the highest.
Blessed
is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Holy God, mighty Lord, gracious Father:
Endless is your mercy and eternal your
reign.
You have filled all creation with light and
life;
heaven and earth are full of your glory.
We praise you for the grace shown to your
people in every age:
the promise to Israel, the rescue from
Egypt,
the gift of the promised land, the words of
the prophets;
and, at this end of all the ages, the gift
of your Son,
who proclaimed the good news in word and
deed
and was obedient to your will, even to
giving his life.
In the night in which he was betrayed, our
Lord Jesus took bread,
and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to
his disciples, saying:
Take and eat; this is my body, given for you.
Do this for the remembrance of me.
Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave
thanks,
and gave it for all to drink, saying:
This cup is the new covenant in my blood,
shed for you and for all people for the
forgiveness of sin.
Do this for the remembrance of me.
For as often as we eat of this bread and
drink from this cup,
we proclaim the Lord’s death until he
comes.
Christ
has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.
Therefore, O God, with this bread and cup
we remember the life our Lord offered for
us.
And, believing the witness of his
resurrection,
we await his coming in power
to share with us the great and promised
feast.
Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.
Send now, we pray, your Holy Spirit,
so that we who share in Christ’s body and
blood
may live to the praise of your glory
and receive our inheritance with all your
saints in light.
Amen. Come, Holy Spirit.
Join our prayers with those of your servants
of every time and every place,
and unite them with the ceaseless petitions
of our great high priest
until he comes as victorious Lord of
all.
Through him, with him, in him,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
all glory and honour is yours, Creator of
all,
The
Lord’s Prayer
As our Saviour taught us, let us pray,
Our
Father in heaven,
hallowed
be your name,
your
kingdom come,
your
will be done,
on
earth as in heaven.
Give
us today our daily bread.
Forgive
us our sins
as
we forgive those who sin against us.
Save
us from the time of trial,
and
deliver us from evil.
For
the kingdom, the power,
and
the glory are yours,
The
Breaking of the Bread
Lord, we died with you on the cross.
Now
we are raised to new life.
We were buried in your tomb.
Now
we share in your resurrection.
Live
in us, that we may live in you.
The gifts of God for the people of God.
Thanks
be to God.
