‘Alleluia No. 1’ Common Praise #405
Collect
of the Day
Let us pray.
Generous God,
whose way is love,
whose truth is searching,
whose life is freely given in Jesus Christ our Lord:
as you have opened for us your house of many rooms,
so may we make a place for the rejected and unloved,
and share the work of peace;
The Proclamation of the
Word of God
The
First Reading
A Reading from Proverbs (4.10-18).
Hear,
my child, and accept my words, that the years of your life may be many. I have taught you the way of wisdom; I have
led you in the paths of uprightness. When
you walk, your step will not be hampered; and if you run, you will not stumble. Keep hold of instruction; do not let go; guard
her, for she is your life. Do not enter
the path of the wicked, and do not walk in the way of evildoers. Avoid it; do not go on it;
turn away from it and pass on. For they cannot sleep unless they have done
wrong; they are robbed of sleep unless they have made someone stumble. For they eat the bread of wickedness and
drink the wine of violence. But the path
of the righteous is like the light of dawn, which shines brighter and brighter
until full day.
Hear what the Spirit is saying to the
church.
Thanks
be to God.
The
Psalm of the Day
Psalm 119.9-16 with Refrain from Songs for
the Holy One
Refrain (twice): Holy
One, teach us your way, and help us walk in it.
9 How shall the young cleanse their way? *
By keeping to your words.
10 With my whole heart I
seek you; *
let
me not stray from your commandments.
Refrain:
Holy One, teach us your way, and
help us walk in it.
11 I treasure your promise in my heart, *
that I may not sin against you.
12 Blessed are you, O
Lord; *
instruct
me in your statutes.
Refrain:
Holy One, teach us your way, and
help us walk in it.
13 With my lips will I recite *
all the judgements of your mouth.
14 I have taken greater
delight in the way of your decrees *
than
in all manner of riches.
Refrain:
Holy One, teach us your way, and
help us walk in it.
15 I will meditate on your commandments *
and give attention to your ways.
16 My delight is in your
statutes; *
I will not forget your word.
Refrain:
Holy One, teach us your way, and
help us walk in it.
The
Second Reading
A Reading from the Acts of the Apostles
(7.55-60).
[Filled] with the Holy Spirit, Stephen gazed
into heaven and saw the glory of God and Jesus standing at the right hand of
God. “Look,” he said, “I see the heavens
opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!” But they covered their ears, and with a loud
shout all rushed together against him. Then
they dragged him out of the city and began to stone him; and the witnesses laid
their coats at the feet of a young man named Saul. While they were stoning Stephen, he prayed,
“Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” Then he
knelt down and cried out in a loud voice, “Lord, do not hold this sin against
them.” When he had said this, he died.
Hear what the Spirit is saying to the
church.
Thanks
be to God.
Hymn
before the Gospel
‘Nada Te Turbe’ Common Praise #568 (sung thrice)
The
Gospel
The Lord be with you.
And
also with you.
The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ
according to John (14.1-14).
Glory
to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
[Jesus
said,] “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house there are many dwelling
places. If it were not so, would I have
told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I
will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may
be also. And you know the way to the
place where I am going.” Thomas said to
him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the
truth, and the life. No one comes to the
Father except through me. If you know
me, you will know my Father also. From
now on you do know him and have seen him.”
Philip
said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied.” Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you all
this time, Philip, and you still do not know me? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How
can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Do
you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on
my own; but the Father who dwells in me does his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the
Father is in me; but if you do not, then believe me because of the works
themselves. Very truly, I tell you, the
one who believes in me will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do
greater works than these, because I am going to the Father. I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that
the Father may be glorified in the Son. If
in my name you ask me for anything, I will do it.”
The Gospel of Christ.
Praise
to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

‘Wash, O God, Our Sons and Daughters’ Common Praise #35
The
Prayer over the Gifts
Let
us pray.
Blessed
are you, O God, ruler of heaven and earth.
Day by day you shower us with
blessings.
As you have raised us to new
life in Christ,
give us glad and generous
hearts,
ready to praise you and to
respond to those in need,
through Jesus Christ, our
Saviour and Lord. Amen. [iii]
The
Thanksgiving at the Table
The
Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Lift
up your hearts.
We lift them to the Lord.
Let
us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give our thanks
and praise.
Blessed
are you, gracious God,
creator
of heaven and earth;
we
give you thanks and praise
for
the glorious resurrection of your Son
Jesus
Christ our Lord;
for
he is the true paschal lamb
who
has taken away the sin of the world.
By
his death he destroyed death,
and
by his rising to life again
he
has won for us eternal life.
Therefore,
joining our voices
with
the whole company of heaven,
we
sing our joyful hymn of praise
to
proclaim the glory of your name.
Holy, holy, holy Lord,
God of power and might.
Heaven and earth are full of
your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the
name of the Lord.
Blessed
are you, O God of the universe.
Your
mercy is everlasting
and
your faithfulness endures from age to age.
Praise
to you for creating the heavens and the earth.
Praise
to you for saving the earth from the waters of the flood.
Praise
to you for bringing the Israelites safely through the sea.
Praise
to you for leading your people
through
the wilderness to the land of milk and honey.
Praise
to you for the words and deeds of Jesus, your anointed one.
Praise
to you for the death and resurrection of Christ.
Praise
to you for your Spirit poured out on all nations.
In
the night in which he was betrayed,
our
Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks;
broke
it, and gave it to his disciples, saying:
Take
and eat; this is my body, given for you.
Do
this for the remembrance of me.
Again,
after supper, he took the cup,
gave
thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying:
This
cup is the new covenant in my blood,
shed
for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin.
Do
this for the remembrance of me.
With
this bread and cup
we
remember our Lord’s Passover from death to life
as
we proclaim the mystery of faith:
Christ has died.
Christ is risen.
Christ will come again.
O
God of resurrection and new life:
Pour
out your Holy Spirit on us
and
on these gifts of bread and wine.
Bless
this feast.
Grace
our table with your presence.
Come, Holy Spirit.
Reveal
yourself to us in the breaking of the bread.
Raise
us up as the body of Christ for the world.
Breathe
new life into us.
Send
us forth, burning with justice, peace and love.
Come, Holy Spirit.
With
the ever-blessed Virgin Mary,
blessed
Joseph, blessed Faith
and
your holy ones of all times and places,
with
the earth and all its creatures,
with
sun and moon and stars,
we
praise you, O God,
blessed
and holy Trinity,
now
and forever. Amen. [v]
The Lord’s Prayer
As
our Saviour taught us, let us pray,
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin
against us.
Save us from the time of
trial,
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours,
The Breaking of the
Bread
Lord,
we died with you on the cross.
Now we are raised to new life.
We
were buried in your tomb.
Now we share in your
resurrection.
Live in us, that we may live
in you.
The
gifts of God for the people of God.
Thanks be to God.

The
Prayer after Communion
Life-giving
God,
in the mystery of Christ’s
resurrection
you send light to conquer
darkness,
water to give new life,
and the bread of life to
nourish your people.
Send us forth as witnesses to
your Son’s resurrection,
so that we may show your glory
to all the world,
through Jesus Christ, our
risen Lord. Amen. [vii]
Glory
to God,
whose power, working in us,
can do infinitely more
than we can ask or
imagine.
Glory to God from generation

in the Church and in Christ Jesus,
for ever and ever. Amen.
