Opening Hymn
‘Lo, He Comes with Clouds Descending’ Common
Praise #114
Blessed be God, the
holy and undivided Trinity, one God:
this is your world and we are your people;
blessed are you for ever and ever. Amen.
The Deacon offers the Bidding and the Community
responds with the Kyrie.
When we have
willfully misused your gifts of creation:
Kyrie, Kyrie, eleison. [ii]
When we have seen
the ill-treatment of others
and have not gone
to their aid:
Kyrie, Kyrie, eleison.
When we have
condoned evil and dishonesty
and failed to
strive for justice:
Kyrie, Kyrie, eleison.
When we have heard
the good news of Christ
but have failed to
share it with others:
Kyrie, Kyrie, eleison.
When we have not
loved you with all our heart
nor our neighbours
as ourselves:
Kyrie, Kyrie, eleison.
The Collect of the Day
Let us pray.
Almighty God,
on the holy mount you revealed to chosen
witnesses
your well-beloved Son, wonderfully
transfigured:
mercifully deliver us from the darkness of
this world,
and change us into his likeness from glory to
glory;
through Jesus Christ our Lord who lives and
reigns
with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now
and for ever. Amen. [iii]
The
Proclamation of the Word
The First Reading
A reading from the prophet
Daniel (7.9-10, 13-14).
7.9 As I watched, thrones
were set in place, and an Ancient One took his throne, his clothing was white
as snow, and the hair of his head like pure wool; his throne was fiery flames,
and its wheels were burning fire. 10
A stream of fire issued and flowed out from his presence. A thousand thousands served him, and ten
thousand times ten thousand stood attending him. The court sat in judgement, and the books
were opened.
13 As I watched in the
night visions, I saw one like a human being coming with the clouds of
heaven. And he came to the Ancient One
and was presented before him. 14
To him was given dominion and glory and kingship, that all peoples, nations,
and languages should serve him. His
dominion is an everlasting dominion that shall not pass away, and his kingship
is one that shall never be destroyed.
Hear what the
Spirit is saying to the Church.
Thanks be to God.
The Psalm
Psalm 99 from Songs for the Holy One.
Refrain (sung twice): We
praise and magnify your glorious name!
The Holy One reigns! Nations tremble!
From the cherubim throne, God shakes the
earth.
The Holy One is
majestic in Zion and exalted over all nations.
Let them praise your name,
your name so great, terrible and holy.
Refrain: We
praise and magnify your glorious name!
Mighty ruler, lover
of justice, you have ordained integrity.
True and faithful justice you have performed
in Jacob.
Refrain: We
praise and magnify your glorious name!
Moses and Aaron are
among your priests,
Samuel among those who call on your name,
calling to the Holy
One, who answers them,
speaking to them from the pillar of cloud.
They honoured all
your decrees and every statute,
O Holy One, our God, you answered them,
though chastising their misdeeds.
Refrain: We
praise and magnify your glorious name!
Exalt the Holy One,
our God!
Bow down to the
holy mountain.
Holy indeed is our God!
Refrain: We
praise and magnify your glorious name!
The Second Reading
A reading from the
Second Letter of Peter (1.16-19).
1.16 For we did not
follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of
our Lord Jesus Christ, but we had been eyewitnesses of his majesty. 17 For he received honour and
glory from God the Father when that voice was conveyed to him by the Majestic
Glory, saying, “This is my Son, my Beloved, with whom I am well pleased.” 18 We ourselves heard this voice
come from heaven, while we were with him on the holy mountain.
19 So we have the
prophetic message more fully confirmed. You will do well to be attentive to
this as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning
star rises in your hearts.
Hear what the
Spirit is saying to the Church.
Thanks be to God.

The Gospel
The Lord be with
you.
And also with you.
The Holy Gospel of
our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke (9.28-36).
Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
9.28 Now about eight days
after these sayings Jesus took with him Peter and John and James, and went up
on the mountain to pray. 29
And while he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes
became dazzling white. 30
Suddenly they saw two men, Moses and Elijah, talking to him. 31 They appeared in glory and were
speaking of his departure, which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem. 32 Now Peter and his companions
were weighed down with sleep; but since they had stayed awake, they saw his
glory and the two men who stood with him. 33 Just as they were leaving him,
Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good for us to be here; let us make three
dwellings, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah” — not knowing what
he said. 34 While he was
saying this, a cloud came and overshadowed them; and they were terrified as
they entered the cloud. 35
Then from the cloud came a voice that said, “This is my Son, my Chosen; listen
to him!” 36 When the voice
had spoken, Jesus was found alone. And they kept silent and in those days told
no one any of the things they had seen.
The Gospel of
Christ.
Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

and fills us with the
perfect love which casts out fear.
We believe in God the

Prayer over the Gifts
Let us pray.
Holy God,
receive
all we offer you this day,
and
bring us to that radiant glory
which we
see in the transfigured face
of Jesus
Christ our Lord. Amen. [v]
The Thanksgiving at the Table
The Lord be with you.
And also
with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift
them to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is
right to give our thanks and praise.
We give you thanks and praise, almighty God, for the
gift of a world full of wonder, and for our life which comes from you. By your power you sustain the universe.
Glory to
you for ever and ever.
You created us to love you with all our heart, and
to love each other as ourselves, but we rebel against you by the evil that we
do.
In Jesus, your Servant, you bring healing to our
world and gather us into one great family.
Therefore, with all who serve you on earth and in heaven, we praise your
wonderful name, as we sing,
Holy,
holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your
glory. Hosanna in the highest.
We give you thanks and praise, loving Creator,
because in sending Jesus, your Beloved, to us you showed us how much you love
us. He cares for the poor and the
hungry. He suffers with the sick and the
rejected.
Betrayed and forsaken, he did not strike back but
overcame hatred with love. On the cross
he defeated the power of sin and death.
By raising him from the dead you show us the power of your love to bring
new life to all your people.
Glory to
you for ever and ever.
On the night before he gave up his life for us,
Jesus, at supper with his friends, took bread, gave thanks to you, broke it,
and gave it to them, saying, “Take this, all of you, and eat it: this is my body which is given for you.”
After supper, Jesus took the cup of wine, said the blessing,
gave it to his friends, and said, “Drink this, all of you: this is the cup of my blood, the blood of the
new and eternal covenant, which is shed for you and for all people. Do this in memory of me.”
Glory to
you for ever and ever.
Gracious God, with this bread and wine we celebrate
the death and resurrection of Jesus, and we offer ourselves to you in him.
Send your Holy Spirit on us and on these gifts, so that we may know the presence of Jesus
in the breaking of bread, and share in the life of the family of your children.
Glory to
you for ever and ever.
Giver of life, you call us to be your servants; fill
us with the courage and love of Jesus, so that all the world may gather in joy
at the table of your kingdom.
We sing your praise, God our Creator, through Jesus,
our Lord, in the power of the Holy Spirit, now and for ever.
The Lord’s Prayer
As our Saviour
taught us, let us pray,
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial,
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours,
now and for ever. Amen.
The Breaking of the Bread
We break this bread
to share in the
body of Christ.
We, being many, are one body,
for we all share in the one bread.
These are the gifts
of God for the people of God.
Thanks be to God.

Forth of the Community
Prayer after Communion
Let us pray.
Holy God,
we see
your glory in the face of Jesus Christ.
May we
who are partakers of his table
reflect
his life in word and deed,
so that
all the world may know his power to change and save.
We ask
this in his name. Amen. [viii]
Glory to God,
whose power, working in us,
can do infinitely more
than we can ask or imagine.
Glory to God from generation to generation,
in the Church and in Christ Jesus,
for ever and ever. Amen.
