Windows on the Kingdom

Dear Friends,

Today at Saint Faith's I preached on the 'already but not yet' of God's reign of justice and peace.  Building upon the messages of perseverance and hope expressed in Jeremiah, 2 Timothy and Luke, I shared my reflections on how 'Take a Bite out of Winter', Saint Faith's second annual event participating in the City of Vancouver's 'Homelessness Action Week', was a moment when the hoped-for kingdom of God became present.

Almost 100 people with needs for winter clothing, underwear, socks, toques, scarves and mittens were provided for through the generosity of Anglican parishes and other community members as well as through funding provided by the City of Vancouver.  Hospitality and compassion were offered by volunteers from Saint Faith's as well as other parishes.  Young people, both members of the Constellation, an ecumenical youth initiative in the Kerrisdale, Dunbar, Point Grey and Marpole neighbourhoods, and their friends served a hot lunch to all who came.
